Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, Briefing Advisory

UNCA briefing advisory with Proffessor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on MDGs Wednesday March 5 at 10:30 am, UNCA Club.

Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs will lead an informal, exclusive briefing with the United Nations Correspondents Association on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and global sustainability agenda.

Urgent and much needed progress toward the MDGs is driving the UN's efforts around the key development meetings in 2008: Tokyo International Conference on Sustainable Development (TICAD IV), G8 in Japan, General Assembly MDG Summit and the work of the MDG Africa Steering and Working Groups.

If the world is going to succeed in achieving the Goals, 2008 is a make or break year and several important steps need to be taken. The emerging challenges of climate change and the environment are confounding the global foreign policy agenda.

Prof. Sachs will speak on the record to questions about what's behind the political rhetoric of Africa being off-track to achieving the MDGs. Should the G8 be accountable for its promises? Is doubling aid to Africa possible and will it happen? Is climate change going to overtake the poverty agenda? Can we achieve peace through military means?

Please join Prof. Sachs for an interactive discussion about how to make sense of some of these foremost global challenges.
