Announcing The Official Launch of Our NEW UNCA.com Website - Wednesday, September 5 at 3:30PM in the UNCA Club!

We will be celebrating the launch of our NEW UNCA website this Wednesday at 3:30 pm, in the UNCA Club. Our site webmasters: Benjamin Sheppard and Kyaw Myaing of Global ICT Systems Inc. will present the new site and answer questions. Please attend if you can.

Welcome Note from Global ICT Systems:

As part of its ongoing activities to help NGOs, associations and clubs in New York city, New Jersey and elsewhere; Global ICT Systems, Inc., USA was honored this last July with a two-year contract to re-design and develop the official website of the United Nations Correspondents Association.

The new website will see its official launch at 4:00 PM EST Today (Wednesday, September 5th, 2007).

All members will be able to sign in to their personal member accounts as well. An email will be sent out to all existing members within a day or two, containing details on how members can sign into their accounts, update their personal profiles and upload a snapshot for the directory if they wish to do so.

This website is a good example of a new breed of websites based on new and rapidly evolving web 2.0 interactive and adaptive technologies.

A major advantage of the new unca.com website is that it is built on top of a powerful, robust and popular web application server which has been optimized to perform professional online Content Management (or new media web publishing to be precise).

The Flagship Content Management System (CMS) we have employed is called Joomla! which is an extremely popular open source server application that can be freely downloaded and distributed by anyone for any reason anywhere in the world. There is an overwhelming amount of world wide support by many members of the Joomla! developer community. Global ICT Systems Inc. is one of the many companies who fully supports Joomla! as well as many other Open Source Initiatives.  In particular open source web based technologies.

In so doing we wish to leverage these new and emerging technologies for the purpose of providing many important features needed by NGOs, associations and clubs. The following is a list of out-of-box features we have implemented and configured in time for the unca.com launch today:

• Membership database.

• Web based editing and publishing tools empowering members to write articles, post photos, slide, and multimedia presentations and allow readers to write comments as well.

• An Online Members Directory - allowing both members and UNCA officers an easy way to search through the membership database on-line and easily contact or send email and newsletters to all members.

• Empowering UNCA officers to make important announcements for meetings and events online without any help from the webmaster.
