The 2011 United Nations Foundation Silver Medal Prize for entries in any medium that best
covers the humanitarian and development aspects of the UN and its
agencies, was awarded to Tumiso Mashaba of The South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Tumiso holds a Bachelor of Technology in Journalism with the Tshwane University of Technology. For the past eight years, he has been employed at the South African Broadcasting Corp. First as an intern for Channel Africa the shortwave internet radio before moving on to producing and presenting two weekly programs: "Africa this week" and "Gateway to Africa" for the station. He went on to produce for all the current affairs shows on SAfm, the national talk radio station. For television, Tumiso produced for SABC News International's 180 Degrees, a Pan African current affairs show and currently produces for the Special Projects unit. Tumiso has successfully completed training in the following fields: Radio Programming and Production (SABC); Theory into Practice (Rhodes University) and Television News Production (Thomson Foundation).
