• Memorial News  - Alec Collett was a long-standing UNCA member who went on a temporary assignment with UNRWA in Lebanon when he was kidnapped in 1985. UNCA made him Honorary President the following year, and for many years met annually to keep his case alive. In 1995, we made a contribution to a scholarship fund for his son Karim, who was eleven when his father disappeared and many of our members maintained contact with his wife Elaine. We joined our efforts with the UN staff union to pressure the UN to employ her. Last December , it was announced that finally, his remains had been recovered and identified.

  We in UNCA extend our deepest sympathy to Elaine and Karim and reiterate our support for journalists, and indeed UN staff similarly attacked anywhere in the world.
